Pieta House

Politicians Pitch Perfect for Pieta

T.D.s and Senators from all parties came together on The Late Late Show last night (Friday 25th November) to launch their bid for a Christmas number one in aid of the suicide crisis centre, Pieta House. 17 Oireachtas members, including Joan Burton, Mick Wallace, Lucinda Creighton and Michael Kitt made their musical debut live on the show with a performance of their charity single, Bridge Over Troubled Water. Backing vocals were provided by the Dublin Gospel Choir and the Lucan Gospel Choir.

“We’re thrilled that so many Oireachtas members have come out to sing their support for Pieta House,” said Joan Freeman, founder and CEO of Pieta House. “We’re asking everyone to log on to iTunes and download Bridge Over Troubled Water as the funds raised will go towards providing our much-needed services,” she said.

Since 2006, over 6,000 people have been seen and helped by Pieta House and demand for their services is constantly on the rise. 80% of Pieta House’s income comes from fundraising events and the organisation relies heavily on the support and encouragement of their volunteers and friends of Pieta.

“As part of my work as a board member of Pieta House I’m delighted to have gathered my Oireachtas colleagues together to do this charity single. We’re hoping to get the Christmas number one spot,” said Derek Keating, Fine Gael TD and board member of Pieta House.

Pieta House was founded by Joan Freeman, a practising psychologist, in January 2006. They now have 5 centres in Lucan, Finglas, Tallaght, Ballyfermot and Limerick. Bridge Over Troubled Water is available now to download on iTunes for €1.29. The project was sponsored by Noel Recruitment.
